I love sand dollars. One of my favorite things to do when we go to the ocean is get up early and go beach combing before anyone else has been out there. It just brightens my day to come across a whole one. This weekend was special because it was the first time that Vinny got to share that with me. He was so excited when he found one. We ended up bringing home six that we found.
I learned a lot this weekend about sand dollars too. I had always assumed that the ones you found on the beach were alive. When I found a small one, I started to feel bad about taking it, and did some research. It turns out that the ones that you find on the beach are actually the skeletons of sea urchins. Too weird. Creepy, but very cool.
